India’s Bilateral Free Trade Agreement

India has signed several bilateral trade agreements with various countries and regions.

Details on some of India’s existing bilateral agreements as of September 2025 are available, including those with

  • Afghanistan (Preferential Trade Agreement – PTA),
  • Australia (Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement – ECTA),
  • Bhutan (Trade Agreement), Chile (PTA),
  • Japan (Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement – CEPA),
  • Malaysia (Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement – CECA),
  • Mauritius (Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement – CECPA),
  • Nepal (Treaty of Trade),
  • Singapore (CECA), South Korea (CEPA),
  • Sri Lanka (Free Trade Agreement – FTA),
  • Thailand (Early Harvest Scheme – EHS),

India’s Multi-lateral Free Trade Agreements (FTA between India and a region)

India is also a participant in multilateral agreements, including the

  • Asia-Pacific Trade Agreement (APTA) with countries like Bangladesh and South Korea
  • ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA),
  • ASEAN-India Trade in Services Agreement (AITISA), and
  • ASEAN-India Investment Agreement (AIIA) with ASEAN member states as part of the
  • India-ASEAN Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement.
  • Other multilateral agreements include the Global System of Trade Preferences (GSTP) among developing countries
  • India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) (with countries like Switzerland, Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein)
  • India-MERCOSUR PTA, and the South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA).
