Introduction

Introduction

The term “herbal” refers to anything derived from plants or plant parts (leaves, roots, bark, seeds, flowers, fruits, or extracts) that are used for their therapeutic, medicinal, aromatic, or nutritional properties.

It does not include synthetic drugs or chemically modified substances.

Ayurvedic products are formulations based on Ayurveda, India’s traditional system of medicine (recognized under Ministry of AYUSH). Made from: Herbs + sometimes minerals, metals, and animal-based substances (e.g., guggulu, bhasma, rasayana).  Examples: Chyawanprash, Triphala churna, Ayurvedic oils, proprietary ayurvedic capsules.

Herbal products are preparations or finished products made from plant materials that are used for:

  • Medicine / Therapy (herbal medicines, Ayurvedic formulations, Siddha, Unani, etc.)
  • Health & Wellness (dietary supplements, immunity boosters, nutraceuticals)
  • Personal care & Cosmetics (herbal shampoos, oils, creams, essential oils)
  • Food & Beverages (herbal teas, functional foods, digestive formulations)

These products are plant-based, may contain one or more herbs, and can be processed into powders, extracts, tablets, capsules, oils, or teas.
