Product and Sourcing guide for State of Telangana

Telangana, one of India’s youngest states, has rapidly emerged as a major contributor to the nation’s economy through its strong industrial base, robust IT sector, and thriving agricultural production. The state’s capital, Hyderabad, is a global hub for information technology, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology, housing leading companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, Dr. Reddy’s, and Bharat Biotech. Telangana is also a significant producer of agricultural commodities like rice, cotton, and maize, supported by extensive irrigation networks such as the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. The state has shown impressive growth in exports, particularly in software services, pharmaceuticals, and engineering goods. With proactive policies, strong infrastructure, and investor-friendly governance, Telangana consistently ranks among the top states in ease of doing business and contributes substantially to India’s GDP, exports, and employment generation.

Ports from where exports can be done in Telangana

  • Telangana is a landlocked state (no major seaport within the state). Therefore exports typically route via seaports in neighbouring states. Example: greenfield highway proposed linking Hyderabad to Bandar Port in Andhra Pradesh for freight connectivity.

  • Dry ports / inland dry-port facilities are planned in Telangana to improve export logistics: e.g., a dry port near Gudibanda (Mahbubnagar district) is proposed
